Weekly Rant

In my 20+ years of software development, I’ve seen a lot of the same things surface where-ever I go. Our interface with computers hasn’t fundamentally changed, because people haven’t changed and computers, well fundamentally they’re still the same as the x386 IBM clone I wrote Pascal on using a library book. Ultimately I was more interested in writing *.bat scripts to hide and unhide dirty pictures with a single command. This sense of practically has stayed with me throughout the years.

I’ve done some things, made a lot of mistakes, seen a lot of other people make mistakes. And mistakes are still being made by myself and others around me every single day. Unavoidable, perhaps. But I wonder sometimes, have “we” made any progress in those 20 years? What was the goal anyway?

It’s this type of rant that you can expect from me once every week. Just me complaining about how back in my day we didn’t have speed bumps, just pits in the road. Unsolicited advice wrapped in obvious insights with a sprinkle of dry or subtle humor.

I hope you’ll enjoy.
